Write, just write

There are several things I need to consider before I can write a proper essay in English.

The first, and perhaps most obvious, is that I don't actually know English -at least not well enough. While you might see this is a minor issue, I assure you it's a serious limitation. Try writing something in Russian, go on! Give it a shot!

I can say with full confidence that if I ever manage to learn English, I'll write much more than silly paragraphs like this. I'll do my best to produce something meaningful, even interesting.

But there is another important factor in this whole business. I tend to spend most of my life in front of a computer. That may not be a problem for others -some people can stay home while their minds travel across the world, and they somehow manage to capture their imagination in exquisite detail.

But for me, it's just noise. I find inspiration in nature. In fields, wilderness, open spaces.... Evolution shaped the human body and mind for natural environments. On top of that, education teaches us to look the other way, offering us routines (and psychologists) to help us survive modern cities. That may work for some people, but sometimes I feel like I'm little more than a Neanderthal.

And so, here I am. Forty-three. Not rich, not poor. A wonderful partner I love spending time with, and a simple job I hate. Trying once again to learn English -and enjoying the process this time.

I'll keep writing. It doesn't matter if my English is far from perfect.
